Self-guided walking, French Alps
Samoëns is the only mountain resort in France to be classed as a conservation village, or “Caisse Nationale des Monuments Historiques”, which has helped it maintain its unique charm and character. Situated in the wide and sunny Haut Giffre valley, it is located in the heart of the French Alps, yet it's just an hour from Geneva airport.
From Samoëns, travel a short distance up the valley and you'll discover the historic commune of Sixt Fer à Cheval, home of the “Queen of the Alps”, a spectacular 70 metre waterfall. A little further on and the Cirque du Fer à Cheval opens out in front of you, which is a place of exceptional natural beauty.
This mixture of authentic French charm and breathtaking beauty is why we chose this region as the original location for OutBreak Adventure holidays and it's a secret that we would like to share.
Samoëns
Samoëns is steeped in mountain history. In addition to the village centre, there are also nine hamlets to explore. Market day is Wednesday, which is usually a rest day for our staff and guests. This is a perfect opportunity to spend some time exploring the village, which has a variety of bars and restaurants, many offering local Savoyard specialities. You will also find an alpine botanical garden, as well as an outdoor swimming pool and a lake, all within walking distance of the chalets.
Other activities
Samoëns is also the perfect base for a range of other adventurous activities which we can arrange of your behlaf and which include:
- Canyoning
- Canoe and kayaking
- Hydrospeed
- Paragliding
- Pony trekking
- Via ferrata (climbing on a fixed line)
- White water rafting
