Centre based guided walking, French Pyrenees
We have graded our Pyrenean walking holidays either 2 Peaks (
) or 3 Peaks (
),
depending on the week. Refer to Dates and prices for grades of specific weeks.
As with all our holidays, we aim to offer our guests a challenging experience.
2 Peaks weeksOn the longest day, you can expect to be walking for between five and seven hours each day, ascending up to 900 vertical meters (3,000ft), which is the equivalent to climbing Snowdon via the Miner's Track. This may involve some scrambling but very limited exposure to heights. You should be used to walking all day, but you don't need to be especially fit.
3 Peaks weeksOn the longest day, expect to be on the mountain for seven to nine hours, with up to 1,200m (4,000ft) of vertical ascent, which is equivalent to climbing Snowdon on the Watkin Path. Certain walks may involve some scrambling and walking in difficult terrain (scree, blocks, snowfields, etc), and there may be some exposure to heights. You need to be fit and a fairly regular walker, with a reasonably good head for heights.
Note that for all grades, the pace is always leisurely and we stop regularly to admire the views and discuss the environment around us. Within reasonable limits the pace will be adjusted to suit everyone within the group. Contact us to discuss these grades in detail.
We have a diversity of walks available to us in a range of different landscapes. Much of our walking takes place on the Canigou massif, which is our local mountain range and offers a variety of challenges. We will also spend a day exploring the coastline, where the Mediterranean meets the foothills of the Pyrenees.
The biggest challenge of the week, which is only suitable for certain 3 Peak groups, may be an attempt on the summit of Mount Canigou itself, which stands at 2,784 metres high and although not technical, requires a good level of fitness, as well as a head for heights. However, it is worth the effort, as the summit offers amazing views of the surrounding mountains in both France and Spain.
