Centre based guided walking, Austrian Tyrol
Included in the price of your one week holiday is five days of guided walking and there is a maximum of eight guests on our walking holidays in the Tyrol. Your guide and host for the week is Sally, a Tyrolian qualified walking guide. Sally, originally from Yorkshire, moved to Austria after university, to work as a tour guide and has lived there for over seven years. She speaks fluent German and is married to Andi, an Austrian high mountain guide.
As well as accompanying you on the mountain, Sally will also spend a number of evenings eating with the group at the Gasthof Griesenau, planning the next days walk and offering her insights into the local culture. She will also help plan rest day activities with the guests.
Vehicle support is provided to access different parts of the area and the local ski lifts will are also be used on occasions, to either start or end the day.
The rest day can be spent exploring the local villages of Kirchdorf, St Johann or Kitzbëhel, hiring bikes and cycling along the Tiroler Ache River or venturing further to Salzburg, Munich or Innsbruck, all within two hours drive or train journey.
Sally’s spent many years holidaying in the Alps where she developed her love for the mountains. Having studied German and Geography, she was offered a job for a UK travel company as a tour guide in Austria and planned on staying for just one year. Within a few weeks of arriving in Obergurgl, she met Andi who was working as a Ski and Snowboard Instructor and they married in 2007.
Sally is a qualified Ski Instructor and Tyrolean Mountain Walking Guide and when she has the time, accompanies Andi on his various climbing and mountaineering tours.
