Guided one week treks, Moroccan High Atlas
Our multi-day treks to the Zat valley in the Moroccan High Atlas Mountains
are graded 3 Peaks (
) and are designed to be challenging for fit and healthy
people with some experience of mountain walking.
Our itinerary for the week is more than 80 kilometres in length, with a total vertical ascent of more than 3,000 metres over the six days. The altitude spans from just over 1,000m to over 2,600m. On the longest day, expect to be on the mountain for up to nine hours, with up to 1,200 metres (4,000ft) of vertical ascent. Certain days may involve some walking in difficult terrain (scree, blocks, snowfields, etc). To fully enjoy our 3 Peaks holidays, you need to be fit and a fairly regular walker.
Note that the pace is always leisurely and we stop regularly to admire the views, discuss the environment around us and, if we're lucky, enjoy a glass of sweet mint tea with some locals.
Within reason, the pace will be adjusted to suit everyone in the group. Don't hesitate to contact us directly to discuss these grades in more detail.
Guiding
Included in the price of your holiday is six days of guided trekking, provided by Gustav or Bruno, our qualified guides, who are both fluent in English and French.
Gustav and Bruno both hold the International Mountain Leader qualification which takes between two and three years to complete. In addition, a local Berber guide working for the AAZ will accompany us on all days. He is the local expert, he knows everything worth knowing about the valley and probably most of its inhabitants too! He speaks the local Berber dialect and will ensure that we'll be able to make the most of our time with the locals.
By using a combination of our own professional Mountain Leaders and a local guide, we are able to offer local knowledge, in English, all the while ensuring that you remain safe on the mountain.
