Guided one week treks, Moroccan High Atlas
Our Moroccan High Atlas trekking holidays are based in the wonderful, unspoilt and little-known Zat valley, only one hour from Marrakech.

The Zat valley is accessed via Tighdouine. From here, only your own two feet or a 4WD vehicle can take you any further.
Although seemingly remote, 25,000 people live in the valley, and a large majority survive on subsistence farming. This will be more than apparent as we walk through barley fields, watch the harvest or the ploughing of the fields, or admire the amazing irrigation channels that are the very reason for the greenery reaching that high up above the valley floor.
Our itinerary includes the famous Yagour rock carvings, thousands of illustrations of people's daily lives and perhaps their dreams, beliefs and aspirations, laid down over 4,000 years ago and set in a truly stunning setting.
We also walk through countless villages and frequently encounter the local Berber population. The Berbers have inhabited large swathes of Northern Africa for millenia and have resisted invasions from the Romans, Arabs, the Spanish and the French. Many people here only speak the local Berber dialect and may never have left the valley. The fact that we are accompanied by a Berber guide means that we have an opportunity to genuinly interact with the villagers and don't be surprised to be invited for a sweet mint tea in someone's living room!
