Make an Enquiry

Our 3 Peaks ( Grading: 3 Peaks ) graded multi-day treks in the Wilder Kaiser region of the Austrian Tyrol involve one four day trek, with three nights in mountain hut accommodation, as well as a day either side walking from and returning to the guest house in the valley. These holidays offer a full alpine experience, as well as the comfort of guest house accommodation on four days.

Provisional itinerary
Below is a provisional itinerary for this holiday. Note that this may be subject to change depending on weather, group ability and other unforeseen factors.

Saturday - Arrival and transfer (if required) to Gasthof Griesenau close to the village of St. Johann in Tirol. We suggest you aim to arrive at the guest house before 17.00, allowing time to relax before the evening meal is served. Transfers take approximately 1 hour 15 minutes from Salzburg airport.

Sunday - A familiarisation walk in the Wilder Kaiser region, involving a short minibus journey at the start and end of the day.

Monday - Trek day 1. We will drive to Gasthof Rummlerhof where we will start our trek by walking towards the famous Schleierwasserfall (waterfall), a playground for some of the world’s best rock climbers. From here we will continue through the forest to the Gaudeamus Hut. After a short break we climb up to the impressively located Grutten Hut (1,620m). Views of the Wilder Kaiser, the St Johann valley and the snow capped high alps are spectacular.
(1,000m ascent, Ca. 6 hrs)

Tuesday - Trek day 2. Following the famous Tirolean Eagles Way along the south side of the Wilder Kaiser we walk to the Kaindlhütte (1,293m), enjoying an interesting path and stunning views along the way. From the Hoch Egg we will enjoy views into Bavaria and up the Inn Valley towards Innsbruck. The hut itself is located amongst pretty alpine pastures.
(700m ascent, Ca. 6 hrs)

Wednesday - Trek day 3. After a short walk from the hut we will meet the narrow Bettlersteig Pathway which we descend to reach the Anton Karg Haus. After a break we will then set off for the Stripsenjoch Haus where we will sleep. The path takes us below the amazing rock faces of the Totenkirchls, one of the famous Kaiser peaks. The Stripsenjoch Hut is well-used by climbers as it is located at the base of many classic alpine ascents and therefore enjoys fantastic views.
(800m ascent, Ca. 6 hours)

Thursday - Trek day 4. The last day of the tour takes us back down to the lush green valley bottom of the Kaiserbach Valley and Gasthof Griesenau. We can choose whether we will ascend the Stripsenkopf (1,807m) or the Feldberg (or both) and then descend to the Kohlalm and back down the valley to the comfort of Gasthof Griesenau.
(900m ascent, Ca. 7 hours)

Friday - The final day can either be spent resting and enjoying the local area, or joining Sally for a final days walking amongst the wonderful mountains of the Austrian Tyrol.

Saturday - Departure and transfer (if required). We suggest taking a flight sometime between 12.00 and 16.00 to allow time for breakfast and goodbyes before departure.
